Editing services

I offer editing for any type of writing: book, article, thesis, dissertation, paper, website, and more.

I can assist you at any and all stages of your work, from rough draft to page proofs.

I provide content editing (attentiveness to content, structure, and expression of ideas), copy editing (grammar, punctuation, spelling, verb tense, stylebook alignment, etc.), and/or proofreading (typos, layout mistakes, and more in final "proof" before publication).*

*If your work is being submitted for a grade or academic credential, such as for dissertations and theses, I provide only copy editing and/or proofreading, not content editing.

How it works

When you hire me as your editor, I work with you to make sure you get what you need as well as what you want. The process involves us working together to produce your best work.

1

You send me some of your work (in Word, Pages, or GoogleDocs).

2

I edit a sample and send it back to you.

3

We discuss what you want and agree to work together.

4

You send the whole work.

5

I edit according to step 3 and return the edited work to you.

6

You accept/reject changes. Repeat steps 4-6 if necessary.

In a world with Chatbots and Grammarly, why use an editor?

person's hands and wrists writing in an open notebook

With a real-life editor, you get

1) a person who can read and understand what you're saying – and work with you to say it best;

2) a person who knows not only the finer points of grammar, but also idioms, overused words, and anachronisms;

3) a person who can check all your bibliographic information, from the sources themselves to the appropriate stylebook formatting;

4) a person who can help you meet specific requirements set by your publisher (and communicate with the publisher if needed);

5) a person who learns your style, reads your content, and hears you;

6) a person who wants your work to succeed and your voice to be heard.

"Fun facts" about Sandy and editing

I am passionate about the importance of the Oxford comma, so much so that my mom and daughter have both given me Oxford comma-related gifts for my birthday and Christmas.
