Hello. I'm Sandy.

With a PhD in Religion (Ancient Christianity) and a background as a university professor, I launched this website to meet people who are interested in learning about Christianity, whether through classes or lectures. As an experienced editor, I hope to connect with people who need editing for their projects and want to use a person, not a chatbot. As a credentialed and certified coach, I'm introducing myself to people who want a coach to walk with them, help them know their strengths, deepen their spiritual walk, and/or apply learning to their lives.

I also enjoy assisting people, churches, or organizations with curricular projects, educational programs, spiritual formation, and team-building using CliftonStrengths®. I am experienced in learning, thinking, advising, teaching, leading, and coaching. I offer clients someone who listens to their needs and applies her critical thinking, analytical, and relational skills to meet those needs.

My Story

After years of teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduates at the university level, I left the academic world in 2019 to pursue a life better aligned with my own values and dreams. Taking a leap into the unknown, I began to figure out what would be next for me even though I wasn't sure what the next steps would look like. I continued to teach adult Christian education and co-lead a Bible study in my church. I took on more editing jobs. I facilitated a women's small group study of some non-canonical Christian texts. I enjoyed these activities, but I missed working with students, particularly walking with them through life; thus, I decided to pursue official credentialing as a life coach so I could walk beside people and help them move forward. I kept teaching and editing (and writing academically). In fall 2023, with the completion of my coach credentialing, I launched my website. Now, as a teacher, lecturer, editor, and coach, I am able to merge my professional experience as a university professor with my love of editing, my training in coaching, and my research in early Christianity and New Testament.

I enjoyed academia (that is, the world of the university and its scholarship and learning), but I am very excited to bring academia into the rest of the world. As a professor, I spent most of my time with undergraduate students and other professors. Now I get to spend time with people from all walks of life, not just those in the university – though college students will always have a special place in my heart. Teaching, lecturing, editing, and coaching gives me the opportunity to share with others the skills, information, and knowledge I gained through my years in academia. (For those of you wondering what "skills" academia requires, check out this.)

I love the early church. I geek out about the Bible. I am very passionate about the Oxford comma and all things grammar. I delight in seeing people move forward through coaching. In all things, I try to live into my name, which means "helper of humanity."

In my personal life, I spend a lot of time chauffeuring teenagers, coordinating family schedules, and trying to make my night owl self get used to an early school morning schedule. Married for over 20 years, my husband and I have two teenagers. We live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, where we enjoy fine Philly cuisine like soft pretzels and water ice. In my spare time, I love to read, walk, experiment with allergy-friendly baking, go down the shore (off-season), and spend time with family and friends. I won't say no to a cup of tea, a piece of dark chocolate, holding a baby, or time in the sunshine.
